Most parents who find me have already done a lot: reassurance, reasoning, changing plans, avoiding triggers, staying close, stepping in to smooth things over- anything to keep life moving and prevent distress.
And yet anxiety still shows up, often bigger and louder than before.
If that’s where you are, there’s nothing 'wrong' with your parenting. It usually means you’re dealing with a system that needs a different lever - one that doesn’t depend on your child feeling ready or willing to do therapy.
SPACE is an evidence-based, parent-led approach that focuses on what you can influence - your responses, your boundaries and the patterns at home that accidentally give anxiety more control.
We apply the SPACE model to your child, your household and the moments that keep repeating - so you’re not trying to translate generic advice into a complicated real life.
SPACE helps even if your child is on the CAMHS waitlist, refuses therapy or can’t engage right now.
A clearer way to respond when anxiety spikes, without getting pulled into arguments or bargaining
A plan for reducing accommodation that feels kind, doable and consistent
Language you can use in the moment (what to say and how to hold the line)
More steadiness and confidence in your parenting decisions
A pathway that supports your child’s independence over time
Respond to your child’s anxiety in a way that’s calm, clear, and supportive
Limit the cycle of accommodation (so anxiety isn't calling the shots)
Help your child become more confident and resilient over time
Feel more connected to your child and to yourself as a parent again

We’ll identify the specific accommodations showing up in your home (reassurance, avoidance, rituals/compulsions, etc.) and where they’re most costly for your family.

We'll create a structured plan that fits your context - your child’s age and needs, your household, your constraints and what’s realistic right now.

You’ll have a place to bring the sticky moments. No matter what curveballs show up, we'll adjust, refine and keep you moving forward.
It typically takes 12-15 sessions to go through the SPACE programme, and these would normally happen weekly (or twice weekly) to maintain momentum. The cost of 1:1 support is £125 per 50 minute session (pay as you go, there's no upfront payment).

SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) is a parent-based programme developed at Yale University. It helps parents support their child or teenager who is struggling with anxiety, OCD, ARFID, Failure to Launch or related difficulties, without requiring the child to participate directly in therapy.
SPACEA is designed for parents or caregivers of children, teens and young adults experiencing anxiety, OCD, ARFID, Failure to Launch or related emotional challenges. It’s especially helpful if your child is unwilling or unable to engage in therapy themselves.
The programme focuses on reducing family accommodation - the well-intended changes parents make to reduce a child’s distress (e.g., providing excessive reassurance or avoiding anxiety triggers). In SPACE, parents learn how to respond supportively while helping their child face fears more independently.
No, SPACE is a parent-only programme. Research shows that working with parents alone can lead to significant improvements in a child’s anxiety symptoms.
It typically takes 12-15 sessions to go through the SPACE programme. Each session is 50 minutes.
Yes. SPACE has shown strong results in helping families, even when a child’s anxiety has been persistent or severe. Parents often report greater confidence and reduced family stress after completing the programme.
Yes. Some research has just come out about using SPACE with autistic children.
You can absolutely use what you've learnt in the book and apply it without support. The benefit of having professional support is you will get guidance on the doing of SPACE, prior to making changes, deciding where to start and what to do differently - and troubleshooting input when navigating through those changes. I'll be there to encourage and guide you every step of the way.
Not necessarily. While SPACE can be effective on its own, it can also be used alongside a child’s individual therapy. It’s especially helpful when a child is not currently in therapy or is reluctant to engage.
Absolutely. SPACE can complement your child’s therapy or serve as a standalone approach if your child isn’t in treatment. It focuses on empowering you with tools that can shift family dynamics in a supportive and effective way.
SPACE is a structured, evidence-based intervention developed by clinical psychologists. It focuses specifically on how parents can respond to anxiety-driven behaviours and promote emotional resilience, rather than general parenting strategies. You’ll receive structured guidance, proven tools and professional facilitation based on clinical research into childhood anxiety and OCD.
SPACE could be a good fit if:
Your child experiences anxiety or OCD
You often find yourself adjusting daily life to reduce their distress
You’re looking for tools to help your child manage anxiety more independently
